About

It’s all about free form creative expression that teaches essential life skills while having lots of fun. It provides a safe, supportive and hip environment that encourages kids to explore and express their ideas through the modalities of free form movement to music, visual art & design and role playing. We ultimately learn through this practice to access at any time that key place of stillness and inner knowing, which helps us deal with everyday life more skillfully and authentically – and more happily.

Through playful exploration we’ll discover what our intuition is, what an authentic creative expression feels like and what it means to create from and be in the present moment. When we understand and are able to identify these essential life skills when we’re kids, and learn how important it is to nurture them as we grow up, instead of loose touch with them as so many adults do, we’ll lead a far groovier, happier and healthier life. Knowing how to move when we’re not sure where we want to go, gives us the confidence to live our Dreams and is the difference between being an average artist or player and being a Great one.

At Wild Arts, participants will be continually encouraged to seek out their unique creative path, what’s most important for them to explore at that moment and the expression of that. Amongst the fun, we address the subject of self reliance to help them understand that expressing themselves creatively and respectfully on an ongoing basis as kids can prevent trouble later on in life; repression and inertia that can lead to depression – a condition sadly so prevalent today, as well as over-rebelliousness and escapism which can end up in a whole lot of trouble.

The leader encourages and draws out rather than “teaches”. The modalities are free form, meaning it is not about learning a dance that follows specific steps or paintings that have an agenda. There is instruction and guidelines but nothing that can be done “right” or “wrong”. This helps overcome judgment of both self and others which can be so crippling in formative years. It’s an adventure without a known outcome – providing endless opportunity and greater potential.

We call this ‘process’ focused arts rather than ‘product’ focused. Of course there’s a place for product work, our school curriculums and working world are full of it. And in order to live a harmonious life, challenging the productive thinking mind needs to be balanced with honouring and nurturing our intuitive, creative essence. Kids learn to trust themselves when they are encouraged to express what they sense rather than replicating a model that they’re given.

Instructor, Fiona Percy says, “Practicing these creative modalities has helped me find the answer to the question I first asked around the age of 8, ‘How can I play this crazy game called life and really enjoy it?’ I see a lot of kids today asking this question. It gives me the greatest pleasure and fulfillment to encourage these young stars to find their unique voice and not be afraid to shine.”
